Concordia University is fortunate to have a diverse array of practitioner-scholars teaching in its new Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) Program. DBA Faculty help to prepare leaders to address the challenges facing the business world by implementing a holistic approach—one that combines quantitative and qualitative business concepts.


This blog series will feature a few key faculty members, in order to give students a sense of their unique academic, professional, and research backgrounds. Leading the DBA Program is Dr. Matthew Hurtienne.

Dr. Hurtienne, Associate Professor, serves as Concordia University School of Business Associate Dean and Director of the DBA Program. He holds a doctorate in Education and Human Resource Studies with a specialization in Organizational Learning, Performance and Change from Colorado State University.

Dr. Hurtienne brings experience in teaching coursework related to human resource management, human resource development, business policy, strategic planning, and healthcare. He has helped to mentor doctorate students through the completion of their defense. Dr. Hurtienne has also served as a consultant and held various leadership roles for both non-profit and government organizations.

His research interests include employee engagement and organizational effectiveness. Dr. Hurtienne’s teaching interests include human resource development and organizational performance and change.
