Concordia's Black Student Union will host the second of three discussions on racial diversity this Wednesday, July 8 at 6 p.m. CT.

“Triumphs in the Battle for Equality” will be held via Zoom and will be moderated by Eugene Pitchford, III, professor and Black Student Union advisor, Dean of Students Dr. Steve Gerner, and Nandi Mollett, an undergraduate admissions counselor.

Nearly 40 current students, incoming students, faculty, staff, administrators, alumni, and parents participated in an open and honest exchange during the first discussion June 8.

“The feedback during our first discussion was amazing,” said Pitchford. “It was a safe place to communicate, actionable steps were established, and participants were motivated to lead on campus and in their communities. One of our education students agreed to mentor a fellow student based on their interaction during that event.”

Interest has been building for the second conversation, according to Pitchford, while noting BSU members have been energized by the success of the first one. Concordia’s Black Student Union, open to all students, strives to do the following:

  • Assist in building a sense of belonging
  • Provide a safety net to ensure a culturally responsive atmosphere
  • Strengthen academic and behavioral success

The second evening of listening, sharing and learning on Wednesday, July 8 is free and open to the public via Zoom. To obtain a link, email Pitchford.
