The theme verse for Concordia University Wisconsin's 2020-21 academic year chosen by Campus Ministry student leaders is "God's Peace In A Troubled World," based on John 16:33.

Members of the Campus Ministry Team chose the theme based on this Bible passage: “[Jesus said:] I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart, I have overcome the world.”

“The Coordinating Council of Campus Ministry chooses the theme on behalf of all members,” said Rev. Steven Smith, Concordia’s campus pastor since 2002. “It’s actually their first task as leaders.” Elected in mid-April this spring via Zoom, 10 students suggested 15 Bible passages during the first of two meetings. Five verses were selected for the second meeting, noted Smith, and potential taglines to go along with each verse were added.

At the second meeting, this year’s theme was chosen from two finalists, before it was shared with administrators, student life, resident directors and resident assistants. Rev. Smith announced it to the campus community May 1 through “In Our Prayers.”

The academic theme this past year was “Love, Unconquered and Uncommon.”

Campus Ministry provides dozens of specialized ministries that continually share the Gospel of Jesus Christ, including feeding the homeless in Milwaukee, to building homes in underprivileged areas such as Appalachia and Guatemala during spring break mission trips. The Covid-19 pandemic unfortunately necessitated the cancellation of those trips this March.
