A Saturday, April 29th concert by The Milwaukee Festival Brass will honor Dr. Louis Menchaca’s 25th anniversary as music department chairman at Concordia University Wisconsin. The 3:30 p.m. concert will be held in the university’s Chapel of the Christ Triumphant, 12800 North Lake Shore Drive, Mequon.

“Impressions of New Zealand” will transport concertgoers to a land that served as a backdrop for “The Lord of the Ring” movies.  Selections will include traditional melodies, as well as contemporary works by New Zealand composers.  This concert will additionally provide a spotlight for Concordia’s high school apprenticeship program.

Menchaca has directed all aspects of instrumental music at CUW since 1992 and the Symphonic Wind Ensemble he directs has gained local, regional and national attention by performing in 36 states as well as Europe.  His professional music associations have enabled the university to assemble one of the finest music staffs in the Midwest.

A past Faculty Laureate Award recipient, Menchaca’s trumpet skills remain an integral part of his life as he leads his own professional brass choir and a jazz quartet entitled Lou’s Jazz Express.

Milwaukee Festival Brass, an ensemble comprised of volunteer brass and percussion players from all walks of life, was founded in 1985 and he is conducted by Mark Taylor, who is celebrating his fifth season.  Utilizing traditional, British brass band instruments, they add a unique flair to their musical repertoire.

Adult tickets for the concert can be purchased at the door for $8, while those 17 and under will be admitted FREE.  For more information on music events, call 262-243-4405 or visit www.cuw.edu/musicdepartment.
