The University is excited to announce a $150,000 donation from the Siebert Lutheran Foundation based in Brookfield, Wis. The money will be used to help fund minority scholarships and support services for Concordia’s Design Your Future program(DYF). This is the fifth donation by Siebert to DYF since the program’s inception in 2007.
“We’re proud to support Concordia’s Design Your Future program,” said Ron Jones, president, Siebert Lutheran Foundation. “This program empowers young people to make better and more responsible lifelong decisions that will benefit themselves, their families, and communities,” Jones added.
This unique, two-year bridge program is based out of Concordia’s Midtown Center on Milwaukee’s north side. In the DYF program, students can earn an associate’s degree in Business Management, Criminal Justice, Liberal Arts and Early Childhood Education (Fall 2011). Once an associate’s degree is obtained, students can transition to the CUW Mequon campus to pursue a four-year bachelor’s degree or transfer to a college or university of their choice.
“We are extremely pleased to have received this generous endorsement from the Siebert Lutheran Foundation,” said Dr. Michael D. Besch, vice president of Academic Operations. “More than any other organization, Siebert has been instrumental in our effort to serve traditional college-aged students in Milwaukee’s central city. This program has made a real difference in the lives of our students and will continue to do so long into the future,” added Besch.
The Siebert Lutheran Foundation was founded by Albert F. Siebert, former owner of Milwaukee Electric Tool Company. A deeply religious man, Siebert vowed to donate large amounts of his assets to the Lord if his company survived the great depression. The company thrived, and to this day Siebert’s mission still revolves around helping Lutheran-based organizations.
