Congratulations to the CUW Veteran Services Department and all who make our school so welcoming to military veterans and active-duty personnel.
The Concordia University Wisconsin Veteran Services Department gets a well-deserved promotion for the 2022-23 academic year, moving from Silver status to Gold in the Military Friendly® Schools, as well as a “Top 10 School” designation to join the truly elite.
More than just a gratifying honor, this sought-after designation represents the results of a true team effort to serve those who serve our country here at CUW.
“Concordia University is honored to have so many service members studying on our campuses, and we are proud to help them succeed in their studies and their careers,” said Dr. William Cario, CUW interim president. “We are proud that those efforts and support at the University have been recognized once again for valuing our veterans.”
Keith Casey, director of Concordia’s Veteran Services Department and a retired colonel in the U.S. Army, said that Concordia University consistently ranks as one of the top Military Friendly® Schools in the country because of University policies that accommodate the rigid schedules of both active service students (drills/activations) and veterans (VA appointments), as well as their dependents.
“Concordia University has been extremely accommodating to help meet those needs,” he said.
This past year has really put those standards to the test, Casey added. It has been extremely difficult for National Guard students, who were being deployed by the state of Wisconsin, to assist with COVID-19 operations. He also commended faculty and staff for going to great lengths to accommodate military students, as well as the student body for being both welcoming and open-minded.
“I’m grateful for the support of the leadership at the University that support our students,” Casey added. “We really do appreciate the efforts to allow students to use those earned benefits.”
Institutions earning the Military Friendly® School designation were evaluated using both public data sources and responses from a proprietary survey. More than 1,800 schools participated in the 2022-2023 survey with 665 earning special awards for going above the standard.
The 2022-2023 Military Friendly® Schools list will be published in the May and October issue of G.I. Jobs magazine and can be found at militaryfriendly.com.
