SGA-led event brings creativity and community to the stage.

There’s something about stepping onto a stage that brings out the unexpected.

That was on full display at this year’s Concordia’s Got Talent, where CUW students shared a wide range of God-given gifts—from Chinese yo-yo to ballroom dancing. Now in its second year, the event continues to grow as a student-led tradition that invites the campus community to gather, celebrate and support one another.

At the center of it all was the Student Government Association (SGA), whose PR and Social Programming Committee planned and executed every detail. Led by Norah Hau and Austin Kerbs, the team coordinated everything from auditions to lighting and sound, creating an experience shaped entirely by students.

“We had a wonderful time putting on CGT for students and their families to enjoy,” said Jenna Piwowarczyk, a junior political science major and SGA chief administrative officer. “It’s inspiring to peek out from backstage and see students laughing and enjoying themselves, and knowing that Student Government made this all happen.”

A night to recall

The evening featured 10 acts, each bringing something distinct to the stage. Performances ranged across music, dance and other creative expressions, offering a glimpse into talents that often go unseen in day-to-day campus life.

For Campus Pastor Rev. Jonathon Bakker, who served as one of five judges, the event revealed a different side of the student body.

“What I don’t typically get to see is the side of our students that was on display at this amazing talent competition,” Bakker said. “There was surprise after surprise as I learned about the different pursuits our students have poured themselves into, some for years of practice, coaching and rehearsing.”

He added that the event was a reminder of the depth of talent across campus and the importance of creating space for students to share it.

“If there’s a takeaway, it’s that we have more talent on this campus than you would believe, and all it takes is the right opportunity for our Falcons to soar,” he said.

At the end of the night, several performers were recognized for their work:

  • First place: Gwendolyn Roghan and her dance partner
  • Second place: Jacey Read
  • Fan favorite: Liam Wielert

While awards marked the conclusion of the competition, the impact of the evening extended beyond rankings. Each student who stepped onstage contributed to an atmosphere of encouragement and community.
