Our sixth day in London started with a guided tour of the historic Lloyds of London insurance company in the heart of the London’s financial district, “The City”. We had the opportunity to learn about the rich history Lloyds has been a part of. As an example, they insured the Titanic for £1M which in today’s currency would be more than a £152M. We were able to ride the elevators with views of the beautiful architecture around London and learn how the design of the building is protected similar to other older buildings in London. Our favorite part of the tour was learning about Admiral Lord Nelson and his bravery to protect Britain and how this has helped Lloyds be at the highest level of prestige. We also stopped in to the see the Bank of England and the big monument to London’s 1666 fire.
After Lloyd’s, some of the group headed over to Chelsea FC stadium (Stamford Bridge) to check out the gift shop and take some photos. After Chelsea, we went to the Natural History Museum. The museum had a huge collection of fossils as well as life-size and life-like dinosaur animatronics! It also had exhibits featuring pretty much any animal you could think of, we could have easily spent an entire day there!
In the evening, we headed to dinner at Tamarind Kitchen where we had a four-course Indian meal full of a variety of delicious cuisine. We took some time to thank Professor Niederjohn for this amazing experience that he and Concordia University Wisconsin has provided us.
Finally, we went to go see the renowned musical Wicked in London’s West End! The lead actresses of Lucy St. Louis, who played Glinda, and Alexia Khadime, who played Elphaba, utterly amazed us with the amount of talent and voices they displayed. The set was truly an eye to behold as well. It was a fantastic way to end our evening.
