Private College Week is coming up—that annual time of the year when Wisconsin's 21 private or independent colleges and universities roll out the red carpet in an effort to show high schoolers what the Cheese State has to offer.
For Concordia, the week of July 12-16 means that would-be Falcons have even more opportunities than usual to get a taste of life at CUW. For that reason, we’ve dubbed our week of activities “Taste of Concordia.”
Each day Monday through Friday, Taste of Concordia will offer multiple opportunities for candidates to tour our scenic campus, learn more from the experts through panels, and get more information about financial aid and the admission process overall.

Questions to ask on your Concordia tour
During any college visit, it’s wise to make sure you come prepared to make the most of your time on campus. One easy way you can stay engaged during the process is to ask a lot of questions. Our Admission team members love an interactive crowd and look forward to answering anything you throw at them!
Can’t think of anything to ask? Here are a few suggestions to get you started, from the people who have heard them all.
What is your favorite place on campus?

I love this question because it shows that the person is actually making an effort to picture themselves here on campus. Plus, Concordia’s campus is so beautiful that it’s an easy one to answer!
In my opinion, it’s tough to pin down just one spot on campus but I’d have to say either the Chapel or the bluff. The Chapel is truly breathtaking and it’s the perfect environment to worship and Praise the Lord. The bluff, on the other hand, is tough to beat. I haven’t met a single person who has walked away from that view unimpressed. The lake view is one of the first things people comment on when they visit our campus.
What are some of the most popular majors at Concordia?

It’s a good idea, in general, to know what some of the biggest programs are at a school. It can tell you a lot about why other students chose to be here.
I also think a lot of incoming students don’t have it completely figured out just yet so this question gives me a chance to talk about my experience of how I ended up majoring in Communication Science and Disorders. I really like when they are interested in how I chose my major because it allows me to share my thought process that might help them land in their perfect career of choice.
What is one piece of advice that you have for an incoming student?

I love questions that draw on my personal experience because I think it helps a person be able to better see themselves at CUW when they hear first-hand experiences. Some families focus on only the logistics and its always nice to add the personal touches.
Best advice I have for an incoming student would be: Don’t be afraid to reach out to other people! Everyone is nervous about college life, not just you. So if you take that step and reach out to people. They’ll be happy that you did and it’ll help you (and them) relax and make more friends!
What are your recommendations and experiences with Concordia’s res halls?

I like to have any type of question about housing and living on campus. It’s one of the more frequently asked questions because I think people want to feel like this could be their home if they’re taking that big leap to move in for several months out of the year.
I have absolutely loved my time living on campus. I like to be able to share my experience with perspective students and give them the insider tips on what they should aim for as well.
What’s the weirdest/funniest/most unique thing that’s happened here on campus?

Don’t be afraid to put us on the spot with an out-of-the-box question! Sometimes you get the most authentic feel for a place when you go a little bit off script.
You’ll likely get a different response from each person you ask with this one, but I like to tell people about the time we had a deer in our cafeteria…you’ll have to ask me this one in person!
