Congratulations to these three Diagnostic Medical Sonography (DMS) graduates for passing all three specialty credentialing exams—before graduation!
For those entering the healthcare professions, graduation is just one step toward beginning a career. The other big one is credentialing. That next phase of your life can’t fully begin until you get the right letters behind your name.
That’s why it’s so exciting that all three 2021 graduates of the DMS bachelor of science program have already passed three specialty credentialing exams offered by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS): Abdominal & Superficial Sonography (AB); Obstetrics & Gynecology Sonography (OB); and Vascular Sonography (RVT).
And they each did it before the walked across the stage to receive their diplomas. This is highly unusual, said Lisa Reimer, chair of the CUW imaging department and director of the diagnostic medical sonography program.
“DMS Students only have 60 days total to accomplish this feat before they graduate, and most do not complete them until after graduation,” Reimer said. “Also, in order to be an official registered sonographer, or RDMS, they needed to pass a 4th exam: Sonographic Principles and Instrumentation. These students were eligible to take that exam last summer and they all passed!”
So congratulations to the Concordia family’s newest credentialed sonographers (top to bottom in photo):

“If you cannot already tell, I am very proud of the determination and perseverance of this group,” Reimer added. “With COVID-19 impacting their clinical education last spring, they worked extra hard to complete all their graduation and professional requirements and are now ready begin employment in all areas of sonography that we are accredited to teach at CUW.”
