CUW’s Campus Ministry Leadership Team selected “Guided by God” as the theme for the 2022-23 academic year.

“Show me your ways, Lord, teach me your paths. Guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long.”

—Psalm 25:4-5 NIV

This year’s theme phrase, Guided by God, is inspired by Psalm 25:4-5. Within the passage, King David, the speaker, uses three imperative verbs (show, teach, and guide) as pleas for God’s action and instruction through ongoing experience with Him. These actions are necessary for every good master-to-mentor, teacher-to-student relationship.

As Associate Campus Pastor Rev. Doug Bender explains:

Through faith, we have the perfect master and teacher in our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. We belong to a God who didn’t simply tell us to love; He shows us how to love. Jesus teaches with authority in the Scriptures, and yet He also gently guides His people to God’s promises, as a good shepherd does for his sheep. We have a God, in Christ, who shows, teaches, and guides us into all things—and we see the proof of this by His sacrifice on the cross and victory in the empty tomb.

In the opening verses of Psalm 25, David demonstrates his humble heart as he “lifts up his soul” to God and calls for the Lord’s help in the midst of trouble. Like David, our lives are full of trouble—unknown challenges, obstacles, and strivings. As we call upon the Lord with a humble heart, He promises to hear us. We can rest assured that, whatever we face, we will not face it alone. We have One who is with us and goes before us.

Through it all, we are guided by God.

Meet the student designer

Taylor McKibbins (’25), a graphic design major at CUW, stepped up to design this year’s theme verse graphic. Taylor is from Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin. Taylor explains that the small arrows in the design represent the chaos of the world, and how it tries to push us on different paths. However, our Lord and Savior (symbolized by a cross) guides us on the right path, as the arrow extending from the cross portrays. God continues to guide us throughout our lives as long as we trust in Him.
