Concordia University Wisconsin’s Symphonic Wind Ensemble and Chamber Orchestra will combine for a spring concert entitled “Classic Classics” on Saturday, April 8 in the university’s Chapel of the Christ Triumphant, 12800 North Lake Shore Drive, Mequon.

The 7:30 p.m. concert will feature seminal repertoire works for both band and orchestra, including Ludwig van Beethoven’s Egmont Overture and Gustav Holst’s 2nd Suite in F for Military Band. Dr. Louis A. Menchaca, in his 25th year as chair of Concordia’s music department, directs both groups.  The wind ensemble has drawn invitations from many Lutheran churches, schools and universities, engaging audiences in both concert and worship settings by utilizing a vast repertoire of sacred and classical music.  Over the past several years, the ensemble has recorded four CD’s.

Membership in the wind ensemble is by audition, as well as leadership aptitude. Students are drawn from a cross section of majors, including music education.  More than half of the group is comprised of students aspiring to be pastors or teachers.
Adult tickets can be purchased at the door for $8, while those 17 and under will be admitted FREE. For more information, call 262-243-4405 or visit www.cuw.edu/musicdepartment.
