A Concordia University Wisconsin pharmacy professor is the new president of the American Pharmacists Association’s Academy of Pharmacy Practice and Management (APhA-APPM), a nationwide network of more than 62,000 professionals and students in the pharmacy field.

Sarah Ray, PharmD, BCPS, was installed last month at the APhA Annual Meeting and Exposition in San Francisco. She will serve a two-year term as president, as well as a two-year term on the Board of Trustees.

As president of APhA-APPM, Ray is charged with leading an executive committee that consists of nine officers, including herself, to carry out the goals of APhA-APPM. The overarching goals include transforming the role of the pharmacist, empowering members, advocating for the profession and developing leaders.

“I am looking forward to being the voice for pharmacists from a wide variety of practice sites,” said Ray. “I am honored to be able to help advance the profession of pharmacy and our contributions to patient care.”

Ray has been employed at Concordia since June 2012, most recently as associate professor of pharmacy. She acts as preceptor for Concordia’s pharmacy practice residency programs, and has been instrumental in starting a new, community-based residency program.  The first resident of that program will begin this summer.

Additionally, she serves as a clinical pharmacist at Milwaukee Health Services, a federally qualified health center. She is a graduate of Creighton University and completed a PGY1 pharmacy practice residency at Aurora Health Care.

Ray was elected to the positions by eligible members of APhA-APPM. The Association’s practicing members include pharmacists, pharmaceutical scientists, student pharmacists and pharmacy technicians.
