Concordia University Wisconsin will officially begin its 139th academic year and the 37th year on its Mequon campus with a traditional Opening Service this Sunday at 10 a.m. in the Chapel Of The Christ Triumphant, 12800 North Lake Shore Drive.
The Rev. Dr. Jeffery T. Schrank, Executive Pastor at Christ Lutheran Church in Phoenix, Arizona, will serve as guest preacher. Founded in 1881 at historic Trinity Lutheran Church, Concordia moved its downtown Milwaukee campus to Mequon prior to the 1983-1984 academic year after The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod purchased the former School Sisters of Notre Dame campus in October, 1982.
Being installed during Sunday’s service are Sandra Jahns, an instructor of communication, and Craig Toerpe, Gift Planning Counselor-Wisconsin, LCMS Foundation. Eleven professors, associate professors, assistant professors or instructors will also be inducted. The theme chosen last spring by student campus ministry leaders for the 2019-2020 academic year is “Sufficient Grace in God’s Perfect Power.”
A processional immediately after Opening Service to the new 41,000 square foot Robert W. Plaster Free Enterprise Center that houses the Batterman School of Business will be followed by lunch for all students, parents, staff and faculty in the chapel courtyard. Undergraduate classes get under way the following day.
