Like many students, senior Nora Rudzinski’s first job after graduating college is not what she would have expected when starting at CUW. However, she is excited for it as she will work at Concordia Publishing House (CPH) in marketing.

Like many Communication jobs her position has many responsibilities. These include managing social media accounts, helping authors promote books, writing press releases, and organizing social events.

“My favorite responsibility is creating promo packages for the authors, church workers, and other patrons, to show CPH’s support of ministry,” Nora said.

Communications Interest

She knew public relations was an industry she was interested in, and she enjoyed working with CPH as an intern during the summer. Nora especially enjoyed the atmosphere and co-worker friendliness.

“My supervisor allowed me to use my own creativity and ideas on projects and made me feel like a useful and meaningful part of the CPH team,” she said.

Nora is looking forward to continuing to build relationships with authors and help others use social media effectively. The job requires a move away from Mequon, which is fine with her as she will be working close to her hometown.

Experience Matters

Her experiences have prepared her well for working at CPH. Nora was a student Instagrammer freshman year for CUW’s strategic communications. This  peaked her interest in the industry. She also freelanced and created a video series for CPH. Her Media Writing class helped with creating a communications plan.

Do your best to make personal connections. A personal referral goes a long way and speaks to your character

Nora also understands the importance of networking and encourages students to value the soft skill.

“Do your best to make personal connections. A personal referral goes a long way and speaks to your character,” she said.

Nora will no doubt serve CPH admirably and will make the university and the Department of Communication proud.
