It may surprise people to know that a significant number of college students nationwide do not have reliable access to food.

A fall 2020 survey of college students nationwide found that 34 percent of students experienced food insecurity within a 30-day period. Additionally, 10.5 percent of U.S. households were food insecure at some point during 2020.

Concordia University Wisconsin has partnered with Family Sharing of Ozaukee County to begin to address the issue for Concordia students and local families.

A mobile food pantry will be parked in the CUW Field House parking lot on the following dates:

Mobile Food Pantry

April 7 & 21 | 1-2:30 p.m.

May 5 & 19 | 1-2:30 p.m.

Any Ozaukee County resident or CUW student in need is invited to stop by to receive groceries or other food assistance at no cost.

“It’s a myth that Ozaukee County residents don’t suffer from any financial problems or food scarcity concerns,” said Dr. Steve Gerner, dean of students at Concordia. “Likewise, there is a false notion that college students at CUW could not possibly be in need of food, but we know the truth says otherwise. Having a mobile food pantry so conveniently located on our campus is an incredible resource for anyone in need to receive food in a discreet and compassionate manner.”

Community residents who utilize the food pantry should plan to bring their driver’s license or some other proof of residency. CUW students will be asked to show their student ID.

Those with questions or in need of additional help can contact the Student Life Office.
