Increased earning potential
Let’s face it. A major reason to further your education is the higher earning potential. Those with a master’s in computer science, on average, see a salary of $101,000, compared to $86,000 for those with a bachelor’s degree. With this salary, you’d be able to pay off any school loans quickly!
Excellent job growth
Living in a tech-savvy world means there will always be job opportunities. The Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates that careers in computer science will grow at a rate of 12 percent through 2028. Receiving a master’s will make you more competitive and stand out among other job seekers.
Career change
A master’s allows for those with a bachelor’s degree in an unrelated field to gain knowledge and skills to start a new career in computer science. This is true for current CUW graduate student, Ryan Fesser. When asked about his reason for starting his degree Ryan stated, “I decided to pursue the MSCS because it allowed me to dive deeper into what I am passionate about in my spare time. The program format allows me to spend time with my wife and three children while progressing through the courses.”
Ability to specialize
Graduate studies are much more focused on specialized areas than bachelor’s degrees. This enables you to gain very specific skills, making you a very attractive hiring option. Concordia offers two concentrations for the Master of Science in Computer Science program, software engineering, and information systems.
Software engineering
The software engineering track builds or sharpens your skills in creating problem-solving tools using computers. This concentration opens the door for advancement in a career in software development, data or business analysis, and more. People in this field with a master’s degree typically perform roles such as team lead or senior developer.

Information systems
While software engineering focuses on the development of technology solutions, information systems put a greater emphasis on the application and management of technology solutions. The courses explore advanced networking, hardware and software system design, integration, and administration in the context of currently emerging technologies.
