Gideon is double majoring in Chemistry and Biomedical Science and is set to graduate in the spring of 2022. He utilizes the gifts God has given him to be a good steward to others. Here’s his story:
Concordia gives me countless opportunities to learn, grow, and serve every day. It has given me a community of friends and faculty who are focused on serving Christ and one another. I have professors who have equipped me with knowledge and training to go out in to the world and serve others in my career. I have pastors and faculty who helped me grow in faith and understanding of scripture, as well as encouraged me to serve and be a steward of my blessings. I have friends who support me, challenge me to improve, and go out and serve with me. Concordia’s focus on ministry and service has helped me grow significantly in my life, faith, and service for Christ.
Throughout my time at Concordia, I have been involved in many service projects. Some have been parts of larger organizations, like sorting shoes for Soles for Jesus or packing food with Feed My Starving Children and Feeding America. I have also participated in more local outreaches, like food pantries or clean-up projects and have been involved in some outreaches on campus, like letter writing to new students as they leave home.
On Campus, my main ministry focus is CORE. CORE is a student lead Bible study geared towards athletes, relating faith and sports. This is my second year of co-leading CORE, which involves writing the Bible studies and leading the discussions. I also occasionally usher for church services here on campus, and I love to attend other ministries like Haven and Build. Off-campus, I stay involved with my home church, First Immanuel, where I have been involved in many service projects, youth group activities and have been a VBS leader in the past.
While I love spending time in the word, at church, and talking with others about my faith, service is where I get to put that faith into action. God has given me countless blessings, including my time and effort. By participating in service work, I am able to be a good steward with the gifts God has given me. In service, God is able to work through me and reach those who might not yet know him. We live in a broken and sinful world, but in our service to others, we can share God’s love and the redemption that he gives through the sacrifice of Christ.
