The annual Early Childhood Literacy Festival on the Lake is planned Friday, August 4th on Concordia University Wisconsin’s Mequon campus, 12800 North Lake Shore Drive, Mequon, and features a keynote address by a local children’s book illustrator.

Co-sponsored since 2005 by Concordia and the South Wisconsin District of The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, the event features eight workshops, including “Adapting Centers to Meet the Needs of Diverse Learners” by Dr. Linda Hensel, director of undergraduate special education programs at Concordia.

Laura Dronzek, an accomplished landscape, animal portrait and still life artist from Milwaukee, will detail her artistic process in creating illustrations to help an author tell their story during her keynote presentation.

The event is open to the public. Cost is $90 per person ($10 discount for early registration) and includes continental breakfast, lunch and an ice cream social. Participants can also apply their festival experience toward one graduate credit.
