Dancing Through the Decades
Dancing Through the Decades is an annual event open to all students and hosted by the Student Government Association (SGA). This year, the tickets sold out within the first 30 minutes of tickets being on sale, which highlights how popular of an event it is. Each year, the dance is held at a different local venue; this year’s location was Discovery World.
Venue
Discovery World is in Downtown Milwaukee near the Milwaukee Art Museum. It has beautiful views of Lake Michigan as well as many of the city buildings that make up the Milwaukee skyline. The large, floor-to-ceiling windows offer great views and serve as a wonderful backdrop for photos. While there were no exhibits open for students to visit, the use of multiple rooms within Discovery World allowed for a very elegant night.
Cocktail Hour
When we first arrived at the dance, there was a cocktail hour. Many appetizers were served during this time, including bruschetta, cheese curds, and fried polenta. The cocktail hour also offered time for students to take pictures with friends and their dates dressed up in their formal attire.
Dinner
After the cocktail hour, attendees moved to the reception hall that featured many formal dining tables. The theme this year was a “discover the world” theme which featured many paper airplane decorations. Each table was also labeled with a city from all around the world and included place settings for students. For dinner, they offered a pasta option as well as an Italian seasoned chicken. The dinner was delicious and portioned perfectly, keeping you full but leaving room for desserts. For desserts, they offered chocolate fudge bites, mini cheesecakes, and mini lemon tarts.
Dance
The ballroom featured a dance floor, providing students a large space to show off their dance moves. The DJ had a table with a form allowing students to request their favorite songs.
Conclusion
Overall, Dancing Through the Decades was a fun night with a great venue, delicious food, and music that kept you on dance floor all night long. For those who did not attend, be sure to keep your eye out for next year’s dance as well as the reveal for next year’s venue.
