Congratulations to Mary Anna Mejchar, studying exercise physiology and philosophy, and Gerek Simonis, a 3rd year pharmacy student, students of the month for April!

CUW is pleased to honor two outstanding students every month, as this year faculty are selecting an undergraduate student and a graduate student as students of the month. Congrats to Mary Anna and Gerek!

Undergraduate Student of the Month

The CUW Faculty have selected Mary Anna Mejchar as the undergraduate student of the month for April. Mary Anna is a senior double majoring in Exercise Physiology and Philosophy. She is an outstanding representative of Concordia’s Christ-centered mission. An academically excellent student, she will graduate this Spring.  Mary Anna applies a highly developed biblical worldview to both her academic work and her extracurricular activities.  In her senior seminar, Mary Anna integrates the insights of biblical stewardship of the body along with the latest medical science and insights from Aristotle and the philosophy of mind.  Off campus, Mary Anna also serves as a lifeguard.  She is a very kind and caring person with a great sense of humor. She is a source of encouragement to both fellow students and faculty and will be missed when she graduates.

Nominated by Dr. Greg Ehlers and Dr. Angus Menuge.

Graduate Student of the Month

The CUW Faculty have selected Gerek Simonis as the graduate student of the month for April. Gerek is a 3rd year pharmacy student.  Gerek showed exemplary professionalism and CUW Spirit while organizing and carrying out the 8th annual Mind-Body-Spirit wellness fair on campus.  This included recruiting students from other programs (and other University partners) to be present to discuss health issues such as stress management, time management, healthy eating and nutrition, mental health (including screening) and other important health initiatives. We had over 75 CUW students participate and the event was a great success for advancing CUW’s mission of creating an open, student-centered environment.

Nominated by Dr. Michael Oldani.
