Nearly thirty children join an extensive cast of CUW alumni, students, and local community members for Concordia’s first outdoor summertime production.
Concordia University Wisconsin’s theatre department will perform “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” in the President’s Courtyard on the university’s Mequon campus, 12800 North Lake Shore Drive, on July 14-16 and July 21-23.
Lori Woodall, CUW theatre professor, has long dreamed on creating an outdoor summer series and selected this Shakespearean comedy as the inaugural production. According to Woodall, “I chose ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ because it is the quintessential summer play and nothing is more festive than Elizabethan theatre.” Adding to the festivity, Woodall intends to transform the courtyard into a “mini-Renaissance fair” complete with fairies to get the audience into the spirit of the beloved 16th century comedy.
Woodall is co-directing the show with CUW professor of literature, Dr. Brian Harries, and alumnus, Nic Cicerale. The production will consist of 18 actors, including five alumni and children of Concordia’s faculty and staff members. Performances will take place at 6 p.m. on Fridays (July 14 and 21) and Saturdays (July 15 and 22) and 4 p.m. on Sundays (July 16 and 23). Tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for seniors, $5 for alumni and veterans, and free for children under 12.
