Concordia University Wisconsin (CUW) recently announced the promotion of Eduardo Garza, U.S. Navy veteran, to Director of Veteran Services, a new position at the University. This title is part of a recently developed, on-campus Veterans Services Office that will work to create a stronger approach to offering educational opportunities to veterans.
“This new role will allow a more concentrated effort to assist veterans and their families achieve their academic goals,” said Garza. “Additionally, this office will seek to create a new veterans organization that is not only active on campus, but in the community as a way to continue to serve others and each other.”
Before beginning work at Concordia, Garza served in the U.S. Navy. He was stationed in Iraq from April 2008 to April 2009 and in September 2013 completed his military service and returned home to Wisconsin. Upon his return, Garza began work at CUW’s Milwaukee Midtown Center, first as an admissions counselor, and then as the Academic Support Coordinator in the Design Your Future program.
According to Rochelle Regenauer, executive director of Centers and Accelerated Programs, hiring Garza to lead the newly developed Veteran Services Office was a logical step for the University.
“Ed is passionate about what veterans need and what we, as an educational community, can do to support them,” stated Regenauer.
The University anticipates this department will be instrumental in offering resources to help guide and support veterans who are interested in pursuing a higher education.
“Veterans deserve this dedicated department for all they have done for our country, and we are proud to be able to support them any way we can,” said Regenauer.
