students cheering

A night of school pride, friendly competition and Falcon energy.

The R. John Buuck Field House was awash in blue Wednesday night as students, faculty and fans came together for Blue Out Basketball, cheering on the Concordia University Wisconsin men’s basketball team as they faced the Concordia University Chicago Cougars.

From tipoff to the final buzzer, Falcon spirit filled the stands. Students showed up decked out in blue, creating an electric game-night atmosphere that reflected the strong sense of community CUW is known for. Organized by the Campus Activities Board, the event gave students a chance to rally behind their team while celebrating campus pride in a big way.

Freddy the Falcon was a constant presence throughout the evening, energizing the crowd and keeping spirits high. One of the night’s highlights came at halftime, when students took to the court for a 3-point competition, competing for a chance to win a JBL speaker and other prizes. Cheers echoed across the Field House as participants lined up their shots and the crowd joined in the excitement.

For event organizers, the goal went beyond the game itself.

“We wanted to bring back the excitement and energy of the Concordia Invitational Tournament, while keeping the camaraderie and fellowship of the game,” said Hannah Wagner, a member of the Campus Activities Board executive team. “This event not only helped us regain that energy but also brought the CUW community together to support the team.”

Beyond the scoreboard, the night reflected a deeper sense of togetherness. As Scripture reminds us, “Let all that you do be done in love” (1 Corinthians 16:14). That spirit was evident throughout the evening — in the encouragement from the stands, the shared excitement on the court and the pride felt across campus.

Events like Blue Out Basketball go beyond competition. They create opportunities for students to connect, unwind and support one another — whether from the bleachers or center court. The energy in the room reflected not just school spirit, but the shared experience of being part of the Falcon community.

As the season continues, nights like this serve as a reminder of what makes CUW special: a campus that comes together, shows up for its teams and celebrates community in meaningful ways.

Go, Falcons.
