Accelerated bachelor’s in secondary education
Higher education is changing. A four-year or five-year path toward a bachelor’s degree doesn’t work for everyone. As a student, you can take advantage of some of the innovations that make reaching your goals more realistic.
What flexible options are there for those who want to become teachers, though?
Concordia’s new accelerated bachelor’s in secondary education
Concordia University now offers an accelerated online Bachelor’s in Secondary Education. This program was designed with your needs in mind. While your practicum work and student teaching will be in-person, the added flexibility of online learning is a plus. If you’re needing to work while completing your bachelor’s degree, you might benefit from the flexibility of an online program.
The Accelerated Secondary Education program lets you choose between becoming a social studies teacher an English teacher or a mathematics teacher. It’s a fully-online bachelor’s in education leading to a Wisconsin license to teach grades 4 through 12. The accelerated courses can be scheduled to complete this program in 3 years or at the pace you prefer.
Option 1: Become a social studies teacher
You’ll get to connect with your students as you guide them through a variety of perspectives and social structures. The content portion of this program blends social sciences, history, and humanities in order to help you equip tomorrow’s decision-makers. You’ll get to help your students learn how people relate to one another. This includes how we interact in groups and organize our thinking. Additionally, you’ll teach your students about religion, thought, and government. When students have a strong foundation in social studies, they’re able to better understand the world around them. They can then ask themselves an important question: Where do I fit into all of this?
Option 2: Become an English teacher
Do you want to explore the language, literature, and expression of the Western canon? When you become an English teacher, you get to do this through the context of education. You’ll demonstrate your understanding of texts and idea. You’ll do this by producing analytical and creative writing on a regular basis. Your professors will inspire you to use your critical thinking skills and apply them to texts. You’ll consider texts through a Christian context and identify ways to apply the text to your life in a meaningful way. When you practice these skills, you’re preparing to teach your students to do the same.
Option 3: Become a Mathematics teacher
Utilize your passion and skill for mathematics to teach students in grades 4-12. You can help enhance the STEM skills of students for continued success in school. Learn to effectively teach students how to apply critical thinking and problem-solving skills to math and other core subjects.
