CUW’s newest department will launch this fall.
MEQUON, WI—Concordia University Wisconsin is pleased to announce Dr. Subha Kumpaty as chair of the Engineering Department. CUW announced in November the addition of new chemical and industrial engineering programs to its long list of STEM offerings.
“We’re very excited to have Dr. Kumpaty aboard as a part of this new program,” said Dr. Aaron Moldenhauer, interim dean of CUW’s School of Arts and Sciences. “He brings impeccable academic credentials to the table, along with an impressive reputation for guiding and mentoring students and a deep and abiding Christian faith.”
Strong engineering credentials
Kumpaty comes to Concordia from Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE), where he has served as professor since 1997. There, he taught classes in thermodynamics, heat transfer, numerical methods, systems dynamics, and microelectromechanical systems. He is active in research projects involving heat transfer, additive manufacturing, and numerical modeling, his primary areas of expertise.
During his tenure at MSOE, Kumpaty received a number of awards, including the Oscar Werwath Distinguished Teacher Award, the Outstanding Mentor Award, and the Karl O. Werwath Engineering Research Award. He holds a Ph.D. in Engineering Science (Mechanical) from the University of Mississippi, an M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from National Institute of Technology- Warangal, India (Kakatiya University), and a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the National Institute of Technology—Trichy, India (University of Madras).
Kumpaty is also a Professional Engineer licensed in the State of Wisconsin. He is a Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and a Program Evaluator of the Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technology.
He said he’s very excited about the future of Concordia’s new department.
“Everything is still in the early stages, but I’m dreaming big,” he said. “I feel that God has led me here to help build something lasting and important.”
Faith and Learning
In addition to his stellar engineering credentials, Kumpaty also earned a D.Min. (Doctor of Ministry) from Tyndale Theological Seminary in Hurst, Texas. One thing that will distinguish CUW’s engineering offerings from those of other schools is its grounding in Christian ethics and a Christian worldview.
“I believe in the integration of faith and learning, and in looking at the world as God’s creation that we are humbly trying to understand,” Kumpaty said. “To me, that means to value people, treat them with dignity and respect, and to persist in our work passionately and in a highly ethical way. That’s very important.”
