Falcons, it's time to take flight on a new school year! Incoming students are invited to start the semester off right with Fall Welcome Weekend.

Concordia University Wisconsin’s annual Fall Welcome Weekend begins Thursday and offers freshmen and transfer students a chance to become acclimated to campus, make new friends, and become a member of the Concordia community.

“Taking Flight on a Brand New Adventure” is this year’s theme, with a variety of activities planned through Sunday before the first day of undergraduate classes Monday, Aug. 24.

Here are a few reasons to take part in Fall Welcome Weekend:

Discover Concordia’s Campus

Since Concordia will be your new home, familiarize yourself with the 200-acre, residential campus that sits along a half-mile of Lake Michigan shoreline and affords students an opportunity to get outside after classes with friends, take a study break on the bluff amphitheater, play Frisbee in the courtyard, or transition from class to class.

Meet New Friends

In addition to meeting your roommates, Fall Welcome Weekend is a great opportunity to meet other people who may eventually turn out to be lifetime friends.

Get To Know Your Schedule

Take the chance to do a “dry run” of your day so you know where all of your classes are and how long it might take to get from place to place.

Learn About Available Resources

You’ll likely be spending a good deal of time during your first semester in the Rincker Memorial Library, so these couple of days before classes officially start would be a good time to familiarize yourself with all the resources available. Have a question about parking your car, or another Campus Safety related question? Know where the Campus Safety office, open 24/7, is located.

Have Fun!

“Taking Flight on a Brand New Adventure” has a number of fun activities and events packed into four days to relieve any stress, including a scavenger hunt, Glow-in-the-dark-bingo, a transfer student social, and We All Scream for Ice Cream.

Meet Your Professors

Students will be given an opportunity to meet and talk with their professors on Friday during lunch in the dining hall, from 11 am to 1 pm They are here to assist you in every step of your Concordia journey and will be happy to field any questions you might have.

Serve!

CUW students have long been known for serving the local and global community as they live a “you first life” in a “me first” world. There are a myriad of service opportunities available, so these few days before classes begin might be a good time to familiarize yourself with Campus Ministry, Mission Trips during spring break, or the Comfort Dog Ministry, among others.

Meet Your Resident Assistant (RA)

Your RA will become an invaluable resource as you transition to college life and what for many might be their first time away from home. Concordia’s RA’s are eager to assist and answer any questions you might have about residence life and what is expected, as are Transition Leaders for commuter students.

Know The Rules

Living on campus will be a great experience, although there are rules you need to follow. Not sure? Check with your resident assistant or resident director.

Attend Sunday’s Opening Service

This year’s Opening Service will be held at Kapco Park on Sunday, August 23 at 10 am CT. It serves as a time to come together as a Christian community to officially kick off the beginning of Concordia University Wisconsin’s 140th academic year.
