Students enrolled in Concordia’s School of Health Professions have a new space to learn and practice their skills. The university unveiled the new skills lab earlier today to the excitement of the Occupational Therapy (OT), Physical Therapy (PT), and Physician Assistant (PA) students who will use the multi-functional lab to hone their patient care skills.

Featuring 15 patient exam stations with high low tables, mounted equipment, and curtains to allow for semi-private exams, the lab was carefully created to mimic a real clinical setting for a better educational experience for all students preparing for careers in the health professions.

“We now have facilities that match the exceptional nature of our programs,” says Bob Barnhart, PT, MS, ScDPT, director of the physical therapy program at CUW. “Our students can get out of the hallways and practice their skills in a proper learning environment.” Barnhart explains that, prior to opening this lab, it was common for students to roll exam tables out into the hallway to practice on each other when a class was in session.

Despite the previous lack of lab space, Concordia’s health programs are among the most esteemed in the region. Boasting 100-percent pass rates on the national certifying exams and 100-percent placement records for graduates in three of the programs – OT, PT, and PA – CUW’s School of Health Professions will even be more competitive as students assimilate into the new lab.
