Open Enrollment runs October 28-November 15. Further details will be coming via email, however it’s not too early to start considering if you need to make changes.


Things to consider:

Health Plan-Do you need to make changes to which plan you have, or add/drop dependents from your plan? We will continue to offer a Traditional PPO plan(Healthy Me A) and a high deductible plan(Healthy Me B). While our HDHP plan is being discontinued at CUW, Healthy Me B will fit the needs of most people on HDHP this year.

Dental & Vision-Do you need to add/drop dependents from your plan?

Dependent Care-Do you have qualified daycare expenses? Enroll in a flex spend account and deduct up to $5000 pre-tax for daycare costs. New forms need to be completed each calendar year.

Flex Spend-Do you have qualified medical/dental/vision expenses? Flex spend isn’t for everyone, but if you are on a high deductible plan you have the ability to take additional pre-tax deductions for dental and vision expenses. If you are on the traditional plan, a medical flex allows pre-tax deductions for copays, prescriptions and more. New forms need to be completed each calendar year.

H.S.A Contributions-You can make changes at any time to your H.S.A, but the beginning of the calendar year is a great time to consider increasing your contribution to maximize your tax deduction. IRS limits will again increase for 2020. If you have an individual account, you can contribute up to $3550 total (less CUW/AA contribution) and if you have a family account, you can contribute up to $7100(less CUW/AA contribution). If you are over the age of 55, you can contribute an additional $1000.

Medicare Eligible-Will you be Medicare eligible in 2020? If you are turning 65 and/or taking social security, be sure to connect with HR so we can determine if your H.S.A contributions need to be changed to avoid tax consequences at the end of the year.
