Welcome to a new year and another opportunity to learn and grow!

As director of the counseling program, it is always wonderful to attend the graduation ceremonies and witness our many students complete their program at Concordia. We look forward to many additional students walking across the stage in the future!

As we anticipate changes in our communities and as human beings, we also anticipate possible changes as current and future counselors. Our roles as mental health professionals are constantly changing based on the needs of the community, as well as the needs of the individual. We work to continually improve ourselves as human beings, chosen children of God, and also in our profession.

When I meet with our practicum / intern students, I am continually amazed at the caliber of work they are doing, as well as the type of work they are doing. Clients of our students are dealing with issues that some of us may have never imagined ourselves facing. We often talk in our discussions about finding a balance, finding the boundary in working with clients. We talk also about self-care.

As we move into this New Year, we ask for peace and understanding as we care for ourselves while working in our profession.
