Concordia University Wisconsin will launch this fall a joint undergraduate degree program with Shanghai Normal University Tianhua College in Shanghai, China, the first of its kind to be approved by the Chinese Ministry of Education, university officials announced today.
The new Bachelor of Science in Rehabilitation Science degree program is designed to be completed in four years, with the third year spent on Concordia’s Mequon campus. Upon completion, students will have acquired the necessary training and knowledge for a career in the human services field, treating not only the physical body, but delivering the best possible care to the whole person – physically, mentally and spiritually.
This is China’s only joint BSRS program with a university not native to its country that has been approved by the Ministry of Education of China, an equivalent governing structure to the US Department of Education, says Christine Kao, Concordia’s director of the Asian-Pacific Region.
With visiting professors from Concordia playing an integral role in instruction all four years and a curriculum that combines Asian and American approaches to the discipline, the program will offer a truly blended approach to Eastern and Western health care practices.
This program is a true combination of resources,” says Kao. “We maintain high-quality instruction while adding our core value, our Christian belief, to the instruction.”
The joint program is currently open to Chinese students. The vision is to extend the study abroad experience to American students within the next three years.
