Concordia University Wisconsin’s 2024 Homecoming and Family Weekend, held from October 18th to 20th, was a memorable celebration of community, fun, and Falcon pride. Students, families, alumni, and friends all came together to enjoy a packed schedule of activities that made for an unforgettable weekend.
Friday, October 18th
The festivities kicked off Friday afternoon with the Spikeball club inviting all to join them in the chapel courtyard and board games hosted by Youth Ministry in Albrecht Lounge, creating opportunities for connection and friendly competition. As evening approached, the Carnival-Themed Dinner at Siebert Dining Hall drew in attendees.
Later, the night took a musical turn with “A Tribute to Carole King: Tapestry and the Making of Beautiful the Musical” presented by Professor Lori Woodall and the CUW Theatre program. This event not only showcased the students’ talent but also educated the audience about the legacy of Carole King’s music. The day concluded on a high note with a bonfire where s’mores could be enjoyed and a firework show at the Bluff Amphitheater, creating a magical atmosphere for all attendees.
Saturday, October 19th
Saturday’s activities kicked off with family and alumni check-ins where participants would receive their free CUW givaway. The morning was lively with music and games. Tailgate festivities included live music, a petting zoo, balloon artists, and a caramel apple bar. The creative energy continued with pumpkin painting in the Regents Courtyard, while some enjoyed outdoor basketball and lawn games.
Sophomore Cassidy Gallagher shared her personal experience with the day’s activities, saying, “I went to the pumpkin painting event and the petting zoo I held a few chicks. Got into the bunny pen and got spooked by a goose in the pen. I also got to touch a llama but that was brief; I was scared it was going to spit on me. There was a goat and a pig. All of the animals were really comforting and soothed my stress. The painting event was really fun and I got to talk to other people there and their families.”
Sports lovers had plenty to cheer for with the Men’s Football team defeating Eureka at Tomasini Stadium and the Men’s Soccer team playing against Concordia Chicago. Later, CUW Men’s Ice Hockey faced off against UW Oshkosh at the Ozaukee Ice Rink, with Falcon fans showing their support. For those seeking a laugh, Comedy Sportz provided an interactive, family-friendly show that had everyone in stitches.
The day wrapped up with a Sibling Sleepover event featuring cookie decorating and a screening of “Inside Out 2,” ensuring that the younger attendees ended their night on a sweet note.
Sunday, October 20th
Sunday began with a Sibling Sleepover Pancake Breakfast, where students and their families enjoyed a delicious meal together. The morning then continued with a worship service at the Chapel of Christ Triumphant, offering a time for reflection and gratitude. The weekend wrapped up with a final brunch at Siebert Dining Hall, giving attendees one last chance to gather and share memories before heading home.
Overall, Concordia University Wisconsin’s Homecoming and Family Weekend 2024 was a resounding success, filled with laughter, celebration, and a strong sense of community. The weekend brought together people from all walks of life, united by their love for CUW and their Falcon pride!
