Concordia University Wisconsin has named De'Shawn Ford as its latest Student of the Month.
The Student of the Month award is a singular honor bestowed upon one student each month by the entire Concordia faculty. With more than 7,500 students at Concordia, Dr. Tracy Tuffey nominated De’Shawn, saying:
De’Shawn shows initiative by engaging in opportunities both in and outside of class. He is a Peer Leader for PSY 101. In this role he represents diversity in leadership, leading prayers in class, team building, advocating for student needs and leading service projects for the community. He is active in Psychology club and Black Student Union, helping to create a health fair for an inner-city school, serving as an ambassador at a child abuse conference and creating a successful TED Talk for a diversity conference hosting several Concordia schools. DeShawn’s resilience as he strives to overcome obstacles in order to demonstrate excellence in academics and co-curricular activities is impressive. He is respected by his peers and faculty.
