Hello everyone! My name is Bella and I’m here to share some honest reviews of restaurants I have been to as well as give some recommendations for your next night out that isn’t too far from campus… but will be worth the drive to eat.

Blue Bat Kitchen & Tequilaria is located on a little corner of Water Street in the historic Third Ward section of Milwaukee. It is the perfect spot for a nice night out with a date/friends or if you’re walking around Milwaukee just to stop by! Blue Bat prides themselves on the more than 160 different tequila options they offer as well as the unique cuisine they serve.

Starting off…

To start, my friend and I had the Bag O’ Chips which consisted of yummy cinnamon tortilla chips with three different salsas – regular house salsa, mango salsa, and guacamole – to start off the night. After we were halfway done with the first bag of chips (yes, they’re THAT good we ordered a second one!) I was excited to try one of their house made margaritas with one of the 160 brands listed and it was so hard to choose what brand of tequila to try! I ended up choosing Kendall Jenner’s 818 Blanco Tequila to add to my drink; not too strong but not too watered down, overall a great drink to pair with my dinner!

Main Course

After debating with myself on what to get, I decided on the Mojo Pork dish which consisted of pickled cucumber (I left that out because… ew), crispy plantain (don’t know what that is), mojo verde, black beans, and cilantro jasmine rice. As I was eating this dish, I do wish there was more flavor and spice with the Mojo Pork because there was so much opportunity to spice up the meat yet nothing was done to add some more “umph”. I ended up filling myself up more with the chips than I did with the dish because the chips and salsa had more flavor.

Who Could Forget About Dessert?

Of course we couldn’t forget dessert! My friend has a MAJOR sweet tooth, so to satisfy her craving, we ordered mini sugared churros with whipped cream in a little bowl… I’ve never seen myself finish two little churros so fast but WOW they were good! Mini churros are definitely more my style since the long churros are so clunky and hard to hold sometimes.

Final Thoughts

Overall, the drinks, dessert, and atmosphere were super cute and had a homey atomsphere, perfect for a little getaway from campus (21 minutes/17 miles) or a night out in Milwaukee… however I’d stay away from the meat dishes and go for their handhelds (tacos) instead if you prefer dishes with flavor.
