Concordia University Wisconsin’s Occupational Therapy (OT) Department will host a Handwriting Camp at St. Paul Lutheran Church and School in Grafton, WI, located at 701 Washington Street, from June 19-23, 2017. This free camp is open to the public and it is made possible by a generous Shopko Foundation grant.
Each day of the camp will host two separate sessions serving two different youth groups. The morning session will be dedicated to teaching manuscript (printing) skills and the afternoon session is for cursive skills.
According to Reivian Berrios DPT, Ph.D., assistant professor at Concordia University Wisconsin (CUW), “Handwriting deficits are one the most common referrals to pediatric rehabilitation. To address this need, Concordia’s OT students and faculty provide a handwriting camp. The handwriting camp will teach a fundamental skill that, without properly learned technique, can limit a child’s progression in handwriting ability.”

Representatives from the Shopko Foundation recently presented a check for $1050 to Concordia University Wisconsin in support of the Handwriting Camp at a ceremony attended by the university’s OT faculty and students at Shopko’s Grafton location.
“We are so pleased to partner with Concordia University and support their efforts to provide essential handwriting education for Ozaukee residents,” says Debbie Elliott, general merchandise manager at Shopko in Grafton. “Like Shopko, Concordia has a strong presence in the community and is committed to the education and welfare of our area families.”
The Shopko Foundation is a strong supporter of Concordia University Wisconsin’s School of Pharmacy.
