Inspiration
The Black Student Union, Psych Club, Joyful Noise, and International Students have collaborated to create an event celebrating Black History Month, The Heritage Gala, which is designed to understand and celebrate multicultural success.
What and when
The gala is open to all Concordia students and the host organizations encourage everyone to attend. It is being held in the Terrace Room this Thursday, February 22nd, 2024. The event starts at 6pm and will go until 8pm. It will provide an opportunity to learn more about different cultures and will feature food, fashion, and music. These highlights are commonly found during celebrations and provide insight into cultural perspectives. Poetry is also featured at this event as a way of storytelling. The goal is to create a relaxed atmosphere where students can enjoy gospel music provided by Joyful Noise, traditional food, a display of historical figures, and traditional African attire.
Why Students Should Go
The Heritage Gala promises to be an excellent opportunity for students to immerse themselves into different cultures. Some cultures that will be featured at this event are African, Jamaican, Native American, and Pacific Islander. Zamier Marshall, President of the Black Student Union, stated, “ This event will give students a sense of awareness about historical events.” Additional information will be available and will emphasize how Christianity and faith has influenced cultural and historical events.
“Students should attend to gain information about other cultures and ethnic backgrounds.”
Zamier Marshall, Black Student Union-President
