Education runs in the family for Concordia student Aaron Yurk.
His mom, Joy, who graduated from CUW in 1990, serves as a teacher at St Paul Lutheran School. His father, 1992 alumnus Michael, is the principal at St Paul Lutheran School.
So, it’s no surprise that Aaron, who will graduate in 2025, is pursuing a degree so he can also work in a school. Thanks to our donors, the first Forward in Faith Lutheran Teacher Scholarship has been awarded to Aaron, who said he plans to become a counselor at a Lutheran high school after graduation.
He said he is grateful to those who support scholarships. “The generous donations have allowed me to spend less time working a physical job and more time to focus on my academics and getting involved in campus events,” he said. “The donors to the Forward in Faith scholarship have made many of my experiences at Concordia possible.”
In addition to supporting and guiding young adults at a Lutheran high school, Aaron said he would also like to teach business and finance classes, as well as coach soccer, basketball and golf teams.
Concordia University has already had a great impact on his life, he said. “It has allowed me to meet some of my closest friends and has made me really excited for my future. Being able to work with so many great professors and fellow students has allowed me to grow and become the person I am today.”
He added: “I have grown spiritually in my faith. Being able to take higher level theology classes has allowed me to gain a deeper knowledge of the Christian faith and Lutheran doctrine. I have also grown socially with being able to get involved in various clubs and associations, such as the Student Government Association.”
In addition to providing financial support, the Forward in Faith scholarship has also given Aaron an important reminder. “The scholarship has helped me remember that there are always people here at Concordia who are willing to support me in pursuit for an education degree.”
