Interprofessional education at Concordia (IPE @ CUW) continues to provide opportunities for students to build their competencies and skills before graduation. September was yet another productive example of IPE in action for both students and faculty.
- The IPE pathway for all health and social care students continued forward with our third (of four) IPE program for 2nd-year students from OT, PT, pharmacy, social work, athletic training, and nursing on September 5th. More than 250 students participated in 24 collaborative teams, where they worked to solve problems for the “case of Mrs. Johnson” and continue on their “Team Challenge” which provides scholarship and professional development funds for the winning team.
- 14 PT and Pharmacy students participated and gained IPE service hours during the bi-annual Veteran’s Stand Down at the Richard’s Street National Guard Armory. Special thanks to both Zach Smith (PT) for organizing students for in-take work and to Leonora Mitre (Pharmacy) for organizing the medical education table on flu vaccines.
- CUW faculty members Beth DeJongh (Pharmacy) and Michael Oldani (Pharmacy/IPE) had an article accepted in the journal, Mental Health Clinician, “Case reports of interprofessional care for clients enrolled in a mental health court,” which describes their work on a collaborative team that helps to manage and treat mentally ill offenders.
