College is all about exploring, whether it be new ideas, future career paths, and even the type of person you want to be. So why not also take some time to explore the city scene that's waiting just around the corner from Concordia University Wisconsin's Mequon campus?

Milwaukee famously offers a plethora of great attractions and restaurants. But don’t just take my word for it. See some of the top picks of our admission staff (our resident experts on everything awesome about Concordia). They offer a wealth of insight on Milwaukee’s gems—from where to kick back and enjoy a delicious meal to what to do in your leisure time. Best of all, each of the suggestions below are within a 15-minute drive of Concordia’s campus!

Water Street Brewery

Mark Mentele thinks you would enjoy eating lunch at Water Street Brewery at the location in Grafton or downtown Milwaukee.

First Watch

Lauren Tilsner loves eating lunch at First Watch, a café here in Mequon. They also serve a delicious breakfast to get your day started right.

Miller Park

McKenzie Laurent says eating at Café Hollander. There are locations in Mequon and Milwaukee. She also says to be sure to catch a game at Miller Park during the baseball season, the home of our Brewers.

The Highland House

Linda Kluge doesn’t want you to miss one of CUW’s favorites: the Highland House. You even get the student discount with your VIP badge. The restaurant is just three, yes three minutes from campus, so it’s great if you’re in a pinch for time or want to find something super convenient.

The Harley Davidson Museum

The Harley Davidson Museum in downtown Milwaukee is a perfect stop regardless of the season, according to Nandi Mallett. While you’re there, enjoy some delicious food at the Motor Bar & Restaurant. The museum is also the host site for Harley’s Anniversary Celebration that takes place each August.

Milwaukee Public Market

Kristin Elvers loves to visit the Milwaukee Public Market and walk the river walk right across the street. If you enjoy coffee, she also suggests the local Collectivo Coffee shop.

Rivoli Theatre

If you have a little extra time during your visit, Sarah Mayer thinks you would enjoy catching a movie at the Rivoli Theatre in Cedarburg – movies are only $3.50 every night. If you want to take in the outdoors and a beautiful view, walk or hike at Lion’s Den in Grafton.

Nine Below Mini Golf

Luke Erickson has several good recommendations. For students or anyone visiting during the winter months he says to go to the Christkindlmarkt in Milwaukee at the new Fiserv Forum. Afterwards, you can go ice skating at Red Arrow Park and grab a hot cup ‘o Joe from Starbucks. If you’re a sports fan like Luke, you can catch an Admirals Hockey game. Year-round, he says to consider making your own mini-golf course at Nine Below in Milwaukee.

Comet Café

Lyndsey Sheridan (our local foodie) recommends you check out Comet Café in downtown Milwaukee. It was featured on Food Network’s Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives.
