The University band performs at a recent concert.Concordia University Wisconsin will hold its annual Instrumental Weekend in April.

All Concordia University Wisconsin's student music ensembles will be showcased Friday, October 5 during the annual Sampler Concert at 7:30 p.m. as part of Family Weekend.


The 90-minute concert in the university’s Chapel of The Christ Triumphant, 12800 North Lake Shore Drive, Mequon, is part of a weekend that features a football game, a sibling sleepover and an on-campus movie.  Groups performing that evening are the Civic Chorale, directed by Prof. Mark Bloedow; String Orchestra, directed by Dr. Louis Menchaca; Chapel Choir, directed by Dr. Alexa Doebele; Chapel Ringers, directed by Bloedow; Selah, directed by Dr. Doebele; Jazz Ensemble, directed by Dr. Menchaca; The Alleluia Ringers, directed by Bloedow; Kammerchor, directed by Dr. Doebele; and a combined University Band and Symphonic Wind Ensemble, directed by Mrs. Johanna Anderson and Dr. Menchaca.

“We’ll be playing a variety of tunes that night including The Beach Boys’ greatest hits,” noted Menchaca, longtime music department chairman.  The Alleluia Ringers will perform Gustav Holst’s “Beyond All Praising” and Lorie Line’s “Joyful, Joyful,” while the String Orchestra presents Leonard Bernstein’s “One Hand, One Heart,” among other selections.

Tickets for the Sampler Concert, available for purchase in front of the chapel one hour prior to the performance, are $8 for adults and no charge for youths 17 and under.

Pops Concert, Friday, October 26, 7:30 p.m., Chapel, Symphonic Wind, Jazz and String Ensembles & the University Band, $8 for adults; no charge for youths 17 and under.

Selah & Civic Chorale Choir Concert, Sunday, November 11, 3:30 p.m., Chapel, $8 for adults; no charge for youths 17 and under.

Christ the King Concert, Sunday, November 18, 3:30 p.m., Chapel, Kammerchor & The Alleluia Ringers, $8 for adults; no charge for youths 17 and under.

Christmas at Concordia, Friday, November 30 and Saturday, December 1, 7:30 p.m., Chapel.  All ensembles will perform during this long-standing, holiday tradition. Tickets are $15 for adults with no charge for youths 17 and under, although everyone attending requires a ticket.
